Anesthesia is administered through an I.V. and makes the patients feel relaxed often enough that they fall asleep. Patients under IV sedation or general anesthesia are continuously monitored with a pulse oximeter, blood pressure cuff and an EKG. Procedures performed under general anesthesia are psychologically less traumatic for the patient since they are asleep.
